new work is coming soon. i'm in the process of converting a lot of my characters into little motion timelines: i've had a minor breakthrough (at least i hope that's what it is).

otherwise, i've been real busy working on interactive design biz for the past two months (translation: gotta pay the rent), so this blog has subsequently been on a little hiatus. for now you can peruse my flickr slideshow, where i've consolidated a whole lot of the stuff i've done recently.

high school silliness: part 1

This past weekend I helped my parents clean out a bunch of old stuff from my childhood home in New Orleans. In the midst of the inescapable nostalgia fest that always supplements and then subsequently saturates the house-cleaning process, I found a gigantic stash of pen drawings I did in what looks like the first half of high school. I say "first half" because I remember spending my free/class time toward the end of high school drawing more "formal" and mandatory stuff for art class as opposed to impromptu character doodles like the ones below (the first of which looks like it was conducted during a Don Quixote translation exercise in Spanish class. Take that Sancho!). Turns out these are much cooler than the pretentious crap i did for class, most of which I remember owing inspiration (unfortunately) to Salvador Dali––which I suppose is de rigueur for every Led Zeppelin-listening, Simpsons-watching, Clearasil-lathering, 17 year old American male that likes to draw. The stuff from art class is conveniently M.I.A.
